Learn About Our Publishing Journey
Reading and Language Confidence
Ablekids Press publishing company was founded by Pauline Mackay in 2007 in Inverness, the Capital of the Scottish Highlands. Our aim is to encourage children to read and learn languages through our range of picture books and activities. We know that children are able to learn amazing things with the right encouragement but there is still so much to do!

Lockdown proved incredibly challenging so the ‘Storyflower Project’ was an unexpected ray of sunshine. A personal mission by our founder to grow a beautiful giant sunflower, Peekaboo, for the children of a local family centre during the first lockdown of 2020, captured the hearts of all who heard about it and from there resources have been developed, and continue to be developed, to spread that joy and delight. We now have a bookshop on Market Brae Steps in the city centre which sells our own products and a selection of adult and children’s books from other publishers. We stock one of the largest selections of Gaelic books in Scotland and also a range of titles by local authors. Please note that our website only sells our own branded products but we cordially invite you to visit us here in the Highlands of Scotland where we are happy to recommend not only great books but great things to do and see in our lovely city of Inverness.
Opening hours of Ablekids Press Bookshop, 10-12 Market Brae Steps, Inverness, IV2 3AB are Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm. You can email us on customer@ablekidspress.com or telephone 07833 312960.
