What a wonderful day!
World Book Day 2025 preparations are underway as our authors/illustrators get ready to head out for events in the community. Reading, writing and drawing are such important skills because they open up limitless imaginative worlds. Author Pauline Mackay is preparing for lots of Loch Ness Monster fun! Wee MacNessie is on his way from Loch Ness for a story, song and colouring-in with surprises from Pauline’s storybag. Author and musician Liza Mulholland and illustrator Marjory Tait will be talking about their wonderful book, ‘The Musician’s Storyflower’ and demonstrating the challenges of illustration. Written in diary format, the book follows Liza’s journey to grow Sweet Peas in honour of her late mum – emotional turmoil as things don’t go according to plan and joy as eventually Nature comes into its own. Liza composed original music inspired by her experience which is included in the book. Marjory’s delicate illustrations wrap themselves harmoniously around the text, sometimes bold, sometimes muted, as Liza’s unpredictable Sweet Peas bring back memories of family and lost communities on Lewis. World Book Day is a wonderful opportunity to share stories and promote reading for pleasure. We look forward to sharing pictures of these fun events.
