We are the only business selected in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland and one of only ten in Scotland. SmallBiz100 showcases the most innovative and admired small businesses across the nation, as part of the count-down to Small Business Saturday on December 6.
Our Journey
In 2007, Pauline Mackay founded Ablekids Press in Inverness. Pauline created a range of Scottish-themed picture books and activities to encourage children to read and learn languages. Ablekids Press believes children are able to learn amazing things with the right encouragement. But there is still so much to do!

Our ‘Storyflower Project’ started to take root during Covid lockdown in 2020 when Pauline planted a giant sunflower for the children of a local family centre. Friends and family loved the idea of growing a flower for someone special. Pauline began to develop educational resources and now schools across the Highlands run Storyflower Projects which are very positive for the well-being of children.

Ablekids Press now runs a bookshop on Market Brae Steps in Inverness city centre which sells our own products and a selection of adult and children’s books from other publishers. We stock one of the largest selections of Gaelic books in Scotland and a range of titles by local authors. Please note that our website only sells our own branded products but we cordially invite you to visit us here in the Highlands of Scotland where we are happy to recommend not only great books but exciting things to do and see in our lovely city of Inverness.
